Lets respond to Shinzō Abe

images (195)In todays commemoration of the dropping of fat man on Nagasaki, a bomb which caused the deaths of 40,000 or more people Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe has called on the world to disarm its nuclear weapons. The Pope has used his weekly Angelus address in St Peter’s Square to call for a global ban on nuclear weapons. He has said “in war there are only losers, the only way to win a war is not to fight it” He said the “tragic” bombings constitute “a permanent appeal to humanity to repudiate war for ever and to ban nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction”. Today, 70 years after the havoc wreaked on Nagasaki would be a good day for our own Government to announce it will not replace the trident missile system and the submarines whose only role is to patrol the seas with their deadly cargo. The decision would save our nation some £100Bn over a 30 year period and allow us to speak with integrity when we call on other nations such as Iran to desist from nuclear proliferation.
